If This Winter Feels Heavy, Read This

A human check-in on navigating the seasonal shift without losing yourself in the process

I want to check in for a moment, human to human.

Between the winter storms that just blasted much of the country, the freezing temps, darker days, and everyone spending more time inside…

I've been noticing a common theme.

People are tired.

Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.

If you've felt a little off lately… you are not alone.

Here's something most people don't say out loud:

This time of year can quietly take more out of us than we realize.

Winter doesn't always look dramatic… sometimes it just feels like you're carrying life with slightly heavier arms.

Nothing is "wrong" with you.

Less sunlight can affect mood.

Shorter days can lower energy.

Being indoors more can make the world feel smaller.

And yet, many of us respond by pushing harder… then wondering why we still feel drained.

Instead of pushing, what if this is the season to support yourself a little more?

A few simple things that help:

  • Get outside when you can, even cold daylight matters

  • Move your body to create energy, not punish it

  • Stay connected (isolation amplifies the slump)

  • Ease up on the pressure to operate at 100%

And one thing I want to gently mention, from my lens as a nurse, is that winter can sometimes expose nutrient gaps that impact mood and energy.

It may be worth asking your provider about:

  • Vitamin D

  • Magnesium

  • Omega-3s

  • B vitamins

Not as magic fixes, just smart support during a season that asks more from us.

But most importantly…

If your pace feels slower right now, don't panic.

You are not falling behind.

You are not losing your edge.

You are responding to a season, and seasons change.

Your energy will rise again.

Your clarity will return.

Until then, take care of yourself in ways your future self will be grateful for.

What are you noticing in your own body this winter?

I'd love to hear what's landing for you, hit reply and let me know.
